I recently commissioned Scott for a series of book covers. I presented him with a rough sketch I’d knocked together, which he generously took on board and began working on building something that was equal parts brand new and still had the foundations that I’d asked for.

The covers are exceptional and have been getting great feedback as I’ve been using them in advertising material, but more importantly has been Scott’s service throughout: He took time via an initial call to understand the brief upfront and made me feel part of a real collaboration, and then kept me updated at appropriate intervals via instant messenger with status reports and drafts. This struck the ideal balance for me, of ensuring I was in the loop and able to give feedback, without taking up too much of my time (something I was grateful for as I could focus on the actual writing of the books!). 

Scott always took time to check I was happy with the work, and ultimately produced something of real value. I’m grateful for his participation on my project and would definitely work with him again on anything in the future.

I’ve had a terrific experience working with Scott Matteson over the past ten years or so. He was the husband of one of our Celery City poetry contest winners. He mentioned he was interested in graphic design. I ask him to do a poster, then a book. Soon he was designing the yearly Poems That Ate Our Ears Contest booklet. 

He does posters pretty much on demand and is very timely in all our dealings.  He also began designing two books a year for the Poetry Society of Michigan, who are also very happy with his work. I am on the Board.

I feel comfortable working with him. I can send him some rudimentary sketch and he will understand and turn it into what I want.  I have nothing but praise for him as designer. He also adds his own ideas, not in a pushy way. Really, an all-around wonderful collaborator!

I’ve been a podcaster since 2008, and Scott has designed the logos for nearly all of my shows, usually at very short notice, and with minimal input from me. He always gives me multiple options, and makes revisions happily and quickly. I like his work so much that when I decided to treat myself to a new tattoo, I immediately asked Scott to design it.
