By now most of the internet-enabled public has seen or at least heard of the Power/Rangers “deboot” short film directed by Joseph Kahn and produced by Adi Shankar (who also produced the 2012 Karl Urban vehicle, DREDD. Remember that? It’ll be important later.) After some ominous rumbling noises from Saban Entertainment, who hold the rights to all Power Ranger properties, the hyper-stylized fan film was nearly purged from the internet entirely, even as the overwhelmingly positive reviews came within an inch of exhausting the world’s supply of adjectives synonymous with “dark” and “gritty.”
But then an agreement was reached, and it came back. If you want to see the NSFW version, it’s here. Why? Because I love you, and I want you to be happy.
Now, on to the Crossover Event mentioned in the headline. To producer Adi Shankar, I suggest this; to not only aid in the telling of additional Power Ranger stories using this “somber and gravelly” tone (thank you, thesaurus) but also to help gain ground in the battle to bring a DREDD sequel to the screen, slam these properties together! Rita Repulsa teams with Judge Death against Dredd the Black Ranger and his color-coded allies? Here, I even got you started with the image below.
